This project will develop a competency framework that reflects the needs of contemporary paramedic practice in Canada.
Congratulations to Dr. Alan Batt and the team developing the PAC/CSA National Occupational Standard for Paramedics who won the “Best of the Best” Research Award at the Australasian College of Paramedicine International Conference last week in Melbourne, Australia.
A panel of judges considered the #NOSP to be the best quality research presented at the conference.
Thanks again to the Australasian College for this recognition, and to every individual who has contributed to this project.
PAC wishes to thank Pierre Poirier, Dr. Batt, and the 200+ paramedics and other healthcare professionals involved in the development process for their contributions to this project. The NOSP not only enhances competencies and educational standards, it also facilitates the framework of paramedic baccalaureate education.
This week, a two-day workshop with the Development Group convenes in Ottawa, ON. During this meeting, the DG will group and collapse the coded data (over 2,500 entries from 28 sources), and use these insights to inform the creation of activities and competencies for the NOSP. Following this workshop, the content will be submitted to the CSA Technical Committee for final review and discussion.
PAC has appointed Dr. Alan Batt, a Professor in the Paramedic Programs at Fanshawe College, Ontario, and Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Paramedicine at Monash University, Australia to lead the NOSP development project on behalf of PAC. Dr. Batt’s research focuses on improving the development of competency frameworks in healthcare professions, and better understanding contemporary professional practice. His award-winning doctoral research is being used to improve the development of competency frameworks in multiple healthcare and non-healthcare professions.
