Job Description

The main duties will be the following:

Evaluate injuries or medical illnesses of a variety of patients or injured individuals to determine emergency medical treatment
Perform emergency medical care to patients as needed
Administer medications other advanced emergency treatment as defined in your scope of practice to patients
Make transport decisions and facilitate transport to hospital or other designated medical facility for further care
Work closely with other teams such as dispatch centers, STARS emergency link center, police and other crew members to ensure relevant information and proper treatment is performed
Document and report nature of illnesses and treatment provided as per OSHA and company regulations.
Assister other agencies or team members with medical treatment, if required
Keep a log of all medical equipment, ambulance equipment and supplies, report any deficiency or soon to be expired medication or equipment
Assist in all health oriented programs as required by the HSE onsite
Assist in triage and designation of appropriate medical care
Provide medical advice and literature to promote and support a safe and healthy workplace
Maintain patient confidentiality and reporting at all times


Skills Requirement

Oilfield experience required.
Language: Excellent written and verbal English and good communication skills
Competent understanding of Part 11: First Aid of the Alberta OH&S Code
Valid class 5 Driver’s License required
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Moderate to advance computer skills including proficiency within Microsoft Office Suites.
Valid WHMIS, H2S Alive, TDG, eGSO (electronic General Safety Orientation), PCST (Pipeline Construction safety training) CSTS or PST Safety Training, Confined space Awareness, Bear Awareness and PII (Paramedic in Industry) required.
Valid certification in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) or PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support) , BLS (Basic Life Support), and Standard First Aid
Candidate must possess a valid Defensive driving certificate and produce a clean drivers abstract
Candidate must be qualified to conduct onsite Cannamm Drug and alcohol testing.
Candidate must be comfortable working in a remote setting for long periods of time.
Candidate must be comfortable sitting in a truck for 12 hours.

Education requirements:
Completion of a recognized Advanced Care Paramedic program

Position Summary

Medical support personnel (MSP) working with Sirius Wilderness Medicine are clinical practitioners in paramedicine with an expanded scope of practice. They use their skills and expertise to provide emergency response, medical assessment, primary health care, chronic disease management, injury prevention, health promotion, medical referral, and coordinate emergency medical evacuations as needed for workers in Canada’s remote northern regions.

The industrial MSP practises on site with limited resources, remotely located from tertiary care, and uses telemedicine to consult with other health professionals as required. MSP staff work in cooperation with the site supervisors, health and safety officers, and exterior medical professionals. The position requires the exercise of independent judgment and decision-making, adaptability, resourcefulness, and good physical fitness.
